Serious Fraud Office to Investigate Libor Manipulation

Criminal charges could be brought against traders implicated in the interest rate rigging scandal after the Serious Fraud Office announced on Friday that it had begun a formal investigation into attempts to fix Libor.

The director of the SFO David Green said he had "decided to formally accept the Libor matter for investigation" after reviewing the information provided by regulators which last week fined Barclays £290m for attempting to manipulate the price of the key interest rate known as Libor - the London interbank offered rate.

The investigation is understood to be into the wider market and not just Barclays.

America's Farmers Fight Monsanto's Scorched Earth Legal Campaign Of Threats And Intimidation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Seventy-five family farmers, seed businesses, and agricultural organizations representing over 300,000 individuals and 4,500 farms filed a brief Thursday, July 5 with the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington D.C. asking the appellate court to reverse a lower court's decision from February dismissing their protective legal action against agricultural giant Monsanto's patents on genetically engineered seed.

The plaintiffs brought the pre-emptive case against Monsanto in March 2011 in the Southern District of New York and specifically seek to defend themselves from nearly two dozen of Monsanto's most aggressively asserted patents on GMO seed. They were forced to act pre-emptively to protect themselves from Monsanto's abusive lawsuits, fearing that if GMO seed contaminates their property despite their efforts to prevent such contamination, Monsanto will sue them for patent infringement.

"It's time to end Monsanto's scorched earth legal campaign of threats and intimidation against America's farmers. Family farmers should be protected by the courts against the unwanted genetic contamination of their crops," said Dave Murphy, founder and executive director of Food Democracy Now!, a grassroots community of more than 300,000 farmers and citizens dedicated to reforming food and agriculture, that is co-plaintiff in the suit.

François Hollande Keeps Election Promise of Raising Taxes For Wealthiest

Since its revolution France has had a reputation for loving to hate the rich. But it has always boasted mega-wealthy business leaders, global brands, moneyed aristocratic families and designer luxury from embossed crocodile handbags to villas on the Riviera. Now it could be set for a new record as the European country doing the most to soak the rich.

The president, François Hollande, made no secret of his election pledge to squeeze fat cats and hit the mega-rich, making them bear the brunt of "sacrifices" needed to fix public finances. This week he was true to his word. The wealthiest households, banks and big business are to shoulder the best part of €7.2bn (£5.7bn) in tax rises this year, and more next year. France, already the only EU country with a wealth-tax, will increase it, with people worth more than €1.3m paying a one-off levy this year.

Inheritance tax, lowered by Sarkozy, will rise. New taxes are aimed at bank profits, dividends, bonuses, stock options, big businesses and energy companies holding petrol stocks. Already there has been a clamp-down on fat-cat salaries with a cap on the pay of chief-executives at state-owned companies.

Romania's President Impeached Amid International Concern

Romanian politicians impeached President Traian Băsescu in an overwhelming vote on Friday, paving the way for a national referendum that could see the divisive and increasingly unpopular leader ousted from the position he's held for eight years.

The vote of 256-114 in parliament came as Băsescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta have engaged in a bitter power struggle in the eastern European country of 19 million, which emerged from communism in 1989. The machinations, especially attempts to sideline the judiciary, have led the United States and the European Union to issue statements of concern about Romania's democracy.

Băsescu opponents accused him of overstepping his authority by meddling with the prime minister's office and trying to influence judicial affairs. The 60-year-old former ship captain was also accused of making racist remarks about Gypsies and disabled people.

Senate speaker Crin Antonescu, who will serve as interim president now that Băsescu has been effectively suspended from the role, said a popular referendum on Băsescu's fate will be held on 29 July.

Turmoil Returns to Stock Markets and Euro

Spain's borrowing costs soared back to crisis levels on Friday after infighting among eurozone countries signalled a return to the turmoil that has rocked the global economy in recent months.

The interest rate on Spanish bonds touched 7%, leaving Madrid on the brink of asking Brussels for a formal bailout, despite having secured a €100bn rescue facility for the country's banks.

Stock markets plunged and the euro tumbled as investors withdrew funds from the currency zone in favour of safer havens. The euro fell 1% to its lowest level against the dollar since July 2010. Spain's Ibex index of leading shares was down more than 3%. The German Dax fell almost 2% to 6410 and the French CAC 1.9% lower at 3168. The FTSE dropped 30 points to 5662, while the New York Dow Jones index fell 138 points to 12,719.

A report on the jobs market in the US added to market tensions after it appeared to show the powerhouse of global growth hitting the buffers. The US added only 80,000 jobs last month, well short of the 200,000 average it managed until March and the 400,000 it needs to bring down unemployment.

SophiaLove Time for a New Game 07/06/2012       I woke up today with several thoughts: “You know what to do.” “Your body knows what to do.” “You are already doing it.”  We are feeling the shift not solely in anticipation, but also because of realization.  It is happening now. There are so many unanswered questions and yet the one that tops the list is “What is going to happen to me?”  This is followed quickly by, “Will I choose the best path?” “What are my choices?” “Does it depend on anyone else or is this choice mine to make?” Your life is defined by you alone.  This is as true today as it was yesterday.  We all sense things are changing, yes.  This explains why you are reading this blog and I have written it.  Yet there are universal truths, some of which we may have forgotten.  The Law of Attraction is real.  What you believe you create.  You create.  This will always remain truth.  As we are a collective, we do sway each other, yes.  This is part of the plan.  Yet in the final analysis, your life choices are always yours to make.  The result of this moment, this day, and this time is up to only you. You have been choosing right along.  Trust.  Remain calm.  In every moment you are presented two options – love and fear.  Choose love.  It is what you are. I would bet a shiny new dime that love is already your primary choice, so no worries are necessary.  When the “Event” happens, whatever it brings, you will be in the right place with every tool necessary.  You will know what to do.  You will choose perfectly.  You are doing so right now. Our bodies are already changing in preparation, our hearts are expanding and our light is stronger.  Animals react differently around me, they stay closer; even “wild” ones talk to me now.  The light is different, and I can’t ever seem to get enough sleep.  We are shifting every day. Benchmark lending rates will be cut from 6.31% to 6%, while deposit rates will fall from 3.25% to 3%. The rate cuts will come into force on Friday and closely follow on from the last cuts made on 7 June. Before these moves, the People's Bank of China had not cut interest rates since 2008. Nigeria is one of the world's biggest oil producers, but the sector is widely seen as being plagued by corruption. A recent report by legislators found $6.8bn (£4bn) had been lost to fraud in the past two years. 'Strengthening reforms' The fuel sector probe was set up in the wake of angry nationwide protests in January after the government tried to remove a fuel subsidy.   Read more 7/7/12 Energies & Beyond   Did you all feel the huge energy download on 7/7/12?!  I certainly did and it left me feeling very tired and a bit spacey!  So, I felt that I should add to my previous blog on clearing after yesterday's energies. As I said before, we have been grounding the energies from June up to 7/7/12, ready to put it all into action for the rest of the month.  As everything is moving at an intense speed it felt right to pull a couple of cards to see what is going on!
