So far they have shown little reason to attempt communicate with them as they claim that the Beings there battle with one another on vast scales in nearly all the separated societies as well as single family disputes, quarrels, and in-differences over trivial matters. The frequencies of these Extra Terrestrial Beings are far too synchronized in the more natural vibration of LOVE and cannot coalesce with the "Earth Beings" in this timeline.
However, they did communicate through "crop circle messaging" technophobe-linquistics that the Earth Beings have two time-frame choices of re-unification with them. One is through the natural process of evolution which will mean basically that they can reconvene in another 26,000 linear Earth years in hopes that the Beings on this planet have gotten over themselves.
Another choice: That they prepare now for the alignment that will take place from December, 12th through the 21st, 2012. But the only way they see this possibility to coalese in harmony with these Beings is for them all to unit together with one another for a cause, any cause will do. Only if they all will apply the nature of energy that created their bodies, planet, galaxy and universe will this have chance to occur. The energy in quest is Divine (unconditional) LOVE, this must be applied now or patience will be required for the following 26,000 earth years.

...& seriously, there might actually be some species of animals on our Earth that are slightly (or considerably) more intelligenter than we are. =P (Dolphins and whales, for instance [?]) (But that's not to say that we humans just a bunch of dummies; ohh we're smart as a pickle; no pun intended. And we're MUCH more intelligent than we've shown as a whole; it's just that our intelligence hasn't been fully 'activated' yet...that is a gradual process as a species. And the amount of time that said process will take is up to us; the ball is in our court. But here's a couple hints -- if we 'try' TOO hard to become 'awakened', we'll actually slow the process down. But the more we open up and ACCEPT / ENJOY / APPRECIATE / DELVE INTO the process and 'flow' with it, the faster it will go. And the more we become COMMUNITY-ORIENTED as a Global Family, the more the process will accelerate...and who knows, maybe we'll be the trailblazers for the brilliantest human era of all time!! ...So yeah, it's high time that we start to 'wake up and smell the java'. [Heyyy, why's it say this on my 'cawfey' cup?? Do I have to pay a co-fee??!])
So let's say that there really are some animals here that are more intelligent than us. Would we be able to "handle" that yet? Is our maturity at a level to where we could accept not being "Number One" at everything? (Is YOURS?) Or is our collective Ego still so arrogantly proud and insecure that it would pout in a corner after it got knocked right off its high horse?
If it does turn out that we're not "Number One", our reaction to that revelation would be a telltale sign of how 'activated' our intelligence is....
I also want to address DavidPorter's comments about December 21 and the 26,000 year-cycle, but I'll have to get to that later...I'm spent. =P If anyone is interested, I should have the follow-up to this tangent posted within the next couple days...stay tuned! =D
