Wet start to May for Central Queensland

In the last 24 hours Central Queensland has copped a soaking with the rain set to ease inland but hang around on the coast. Persistent onshore winds associated with a weak trough have brought warm, moist air onto coastal regions. The result has been substantial rain to fall in parts of inland and coastal Central Queensland.
A significant amount of rain has fallen in Capricornia in the 24 hours till 9am Tuesday with 61 mm on the coast at Byfield, 42 mm at Samuel Hill Airport and 56 mm at the further inland Blackdown Tableland. This is the most rainfall in the area since March earlier this year and is especially significant for May which is normally a relatively drier month.

Beef producers want cattle donated to Indonesia

Organisers of a beef crisis summit in north Queensland today want to see 100,000 Australian cattle donated to Indonesia. Up to 500 graziers, as well as the state and federal agriculture ministers, are gathering for a meeting in Richmond to address the high Australian dollar, drought, high debt and the reduced cattle export industry.
Organiser Barry Hughes says one resolution is to make good with Indonesia after the live export suspension.

WA bracing for wild few days

Western Australia is bracing for a wild few days of intense wind, rain, thunderstorms and waves with potential for significant damage, according to weatherzone.com.au. From Tuesday night to Friday the wind, rain and storms will be far reaching across the west and south of the state but focused on the southwest, particularly the area from Perth to Albany.
"Wind will be strong enough to damage buildings and bring down trees and power lines. Storms will be intense enough to enhance the wind and rain and lead to flash flooding. And waves will be large enough to erode beaches. There is potential for wind gusts to reach 120km/h, rainfall to amount to 60-to-120mm and wave heights to exceed five metres," Weatherzone meteorologist Brett Dutschke said. There is still time to do some tidying up around the yard and clean the gutters before the peak of the weather hits on Wednesday.

Lake learns lessons from Qld floods

The Mayor of Ipswich in south east Queensland says it is crucial local governments across the Hunter, and the rest of Australia, share their experiences of dealing with natural disasters. Paul Pisasale will speak at Lake Macquarie Council's second 'Our City, Our Future' lecture series tonight.
Ipswich was devastated by floods in 2011, which saw more than 3,000 homes and businesses inundated with water. Councilor Pisasale says he is proud of how his community pulled together during the natural disaster.

Drought impacting Gulf barra fishers

It's not just those on the land who are feeling the effects of the drought, fisherman in northern parts of the country are too. Gary Ward is the chairman of Gulf of Carpentaria commercial fishers association and has noticed a drastic drop in barramundi numbers.
He says the missing wet season is to blame for an 80 per cent reduction compared to last year. "Fishermen are battling to fill orders that they've been able to fill for many years." "There's a drought on the land, there's a drought in the sea." Mr Ward says they're hoping to get a cold snap in winter which could improve the situation.

I awoke today with my own wake up call. As I lay in bed the thoughts and feelings kept rolling through me. Yesterday I had a day like I’ve never had before. The evening before Bob and I went to look at a vehicle to buy from someone in the area. We liked it tremendously and found the owners to be very much in tune with us, wonderful people. We came to an agreement on the vehicle and that started the whole process for me of accessing some of my innermost feelings about different things in my life.
I didn’t realize the depth of it until this morning. I will give you the info about what has taken place in my life recently. A few days ago I received in my bank the inheritance from my mother, who passed over almost two years ago. The feelings of what will happen when a gift like this is all gone came over me. I was feeling, what will I do for extra money when the gift from my mother and father is all gone. There are no more sources of these kinds of funds waiting in the wings for me. Oh, I’d better be careful how I spend the rest of the money that is such a beautiful gift to me. Do I deserve it?
Yes, I certainly do. I’ve spent my whole life being careful about spending. Be careful; don’t spend too much on this, or that. Do you really need this; do you deserve that? Of course you do, I said then and so many times. Still the feelings came up from time to time. Was it because it was true, or because people told you it was. Or was it because people told you that you don’t deserve it, maybe not in words, but in actions.
Big chill damaging US grain crops

Severe frosts and a cold spring in the United States have damaged wheat crops and delayed corn planting. The poor weather is threatening to slash American yields and increase the demand for Australian grain.
Market analyst Arlan Suderman, from Wichita in Kansas, says global grain prices will rise if poor conditions linger in the US.

PNG floods at crisis point

The international aid agency Oxfam says the flooding situation in Papua New Guinea's East Sepik province has now reached crisis point. Seven people have been confirmed dead and about 11,500 people have been affected by flooding along the Sepik River.
Phillippe Allen, Oxfam Australia's associate country director for PNG, says although flooding is a regular occurrence, water levels have risen excessively in this wet season. He's told Radio Australia's communities that are normally dry for most of the year have been inundated, damaging water sources and destroying sustainable livelihoods.

Flood forum hears call for national disaster levy

A Gympie business owner says Australia needs a national levy to cover the cost of disasters. Disasters have cost Australia billions of dollars in the past few years - Gympie has had five major floods in two years.
About 50 business owners were at a forum in the city last night to be briefed by consultants doing a flood mitigation study for council. Kerren Smith's business has lost 5,000 production hours due to flooding this year and he says a scheme similar to the disability insurance levy is needed for disasters.

The Sombrero Galaxy is one of the better-known photographs of night sky phenomenon. But where to find it in the night sky? It's not as difficult as it might seem, and Saturn helps point the way for the next few weeks as well. With a fairly high surface brightness, along with several nearby double stars that are worth observing (even if you can't find or see the galaxy), get to know this area of sky this week while the Moon stay mostly out of the way and provides darker skies. For a printable star chart of this area, use Star Chart #11 here at Eyes on the Sky, and look for M104 in the lower right hand corner near Corvus. (Saturn will not be on this star chart.)

The moon will block the sun in a potentially spectacular solar eclipse this week — a celestial event that will transform the sun into a cosmic "ring of fire" in the daytime sky.
The ring-shaped solar eclipse , known as an annular eclipse, will occur Thursday and Friday (May 9 and 10). Weather permitting, the eclipse will be visible in certain parts of Australia and the Southern Pacific Ocean, where the local time will be Friday.

"Wednesday and Thursday will bring showers into the Northeast, but the nozzle-like focus of heavy rain will weaken into scattered nuisance showers."

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska's Cleveland Volcano is undergoing a continuous low-level eruption following an explosion early Saturday morning, scientists from the Alaska Volcano Observatory and the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Satellites and cameras suggest low-level emissions of gas, steam and ash, scientists said, and satellites detected highly elevated surface temperatures at the summit. A faint plume of ash extended eastward below 15,000 feet, but the Federal Aviation Administration said there were no flight restrictions as a result.

Miami, Fla. and Edmonton, Canada are separated by a distance of more than 2,500 miles according to Google Maps, so you would never think their weather conditions would ever be the same. However, Monday was an oddity.
Thanks to a high-pressure system aloft and brisk southerly winds ahead of a cold front, the city of Edmonton in western Canada reached a record high temperature of 88 degrees on Monday. This was warmer than Miami (85 degrees) and Phoenix (87 degrees)!

There's a chance you could be driving past a cell phone tower every day and not know it, because some of these behemoth structures of technology are disguised to resemble surrounding trees.
It's a fascinating attempt to hide the human effect on nature that started 21 years ago in Denver, according to Wired. While it seems inventive to conceal a large cell tower in a natural environment like the Mile High City, it's also pricey -- the report also states that the "fake tree" look for a cell tower could cost as much as $150,000.

As many of you may be aware I am on my own personal journey and this journey will now see me leave the area in which I have spent the past 3 years healing and the country I have spent my whole life in so far. Many people have expressed to me how excited I must feel and how amazing this opportunity is for me and whilst I can totally relate to this there is a part that is often overlooked. The dissolving and transmuting of the old self in order to find balance and wholeness once more in the SELF that I AM at this moment. I have found the past week or so extremely challenging and have noted how my human vehicle has resorted at times to what can only be described as blind panic. When I returned from my week in Edinburgh I was full of excitement and full of plans, on walking through the front door of the house I currently live in slowly this began to dissolve. So I asked for guidance and I meditated and I watched as one trigger arose then another. I also noted how often the word “ghosts” came up for me, the song “ghost” by Ian Astbury was forever popping into my head. So i listened to my guidance and asked to be shown the “ghosts” that were hiding within my own life.

Multiple UFOs were caught on film briefly passing from the North West to the East over the North of Shrewsbury, Shropshire UK on 1st May 2013. They were caught on film with a Pulsar Recon 550 digital night vision monocular but could not be seen with the naked eye. They are not sky lanterns as they did not glow or flicker or give of a bright enough light, but they could be birds, although as this would have been above fields late in the evening, it is unlikely but 'cannot be ruled out'. You can see in the footage that a civilian airliner was also traversing the sky at the same time and at 1 min 25 secs in you will see a small shooting star or meteor enter the atmosphere. Weather was calm with no wind and no clouds. Aircraft and balloons have been ruled out here so they remain unidentified. Once again this shows just how useful night vision equipment is when viewing in low light and dark conditions.

I have a new mission for the rest of this year… figuring how to go beyond words in a reading!! Once I get that aspect figured out, the next thing that will have to go beyond words are my sharings. No matter how I share what I understand, either here or in readings, I don’t have the words to bring you the true realness of what it all means. My first lady of the day, I swear she and I could have been doing the same thing, symbolism wise. There she was, magnetic prominence generating the new magnetic flow all around her and she was trying to climb out of this prominence. She was at the front upper part of the top of the prominence (just as a reminder, this prominence in my vision looks like a the elongated aspect of a solar flare before it completely releases itself.) I said to her, you don’t want to get out of this enhanced energy field, let me put you back down on the ground. She did let me, but with attitude. Once she was back on the ground, she put her hands on her hips and just gave me a look… you know those looks!! (smile) Feisty woman!!
