Natural Remedies: Fatigue

(editor's note: Tired of being tired? Rather than cover up those warning signs with caffeine or other stimulants, today I bring you some natural remedies designed to reduce fatigue so your body can heal and energize.

In time, the science of light and sound will advance so that we can update our medical centers, similar to those used on our Healing Ships.
Awakening within us all is the ability to completely heal ourselves.
As our bodies evolve from carbon-based to a crystalline-based structure, we must all learn how to properly nourish and treat our physical body.
Through this "Natural Remedies" segment I hope to introduce you to methods of healing you may not have tried, as well as building your knowledge base so you can help others.

Life as we know it now is pretty rough. The demands we place on our bodies can carry over into our sleep, so even that restorative phase is less effective. If you are tired of feeling tired, these remedies may give you some relief.

 

* Sage wine to boost energy

Steep 4 oz. of sage leaves in 1 quart of dry red or white wine. Let it sit for one week at room temperature; then strain out the leaves. Take 2 tbsp daily after your main meal. This stimulates cardiac and circulatory function and corrects the tendency towards increased perspiration that occurs in many people who suffer from fatigue.

 

* Topical solution

Combining the essential oils of clove, cinnamon and sage can help you overcome fatigue. Dilute the preparation with a few drops of a neutral oil (like olive oil) to avoid skin irritation and rub a small amount on your temples, forehead and neck.

 

* St. John's Wort for energy

The essential oil of St. John's wort alleviates fatigue and exhaustion and clears the mind. It can also improve concentration. Mix 3 drops of the essential oil with 1 quart of non-sparking mineral water. Drink a glass of this water whenever you feel the need to increase your energy level.

 

* Manganese

An insufficient supply of manganese can reduce the enzyme activity that takes place in your cells, leaving you feeling fatigued, nervous and irritable. Manganese stimulates the body's production of glucose helping to provide energy for the brain and central nervous system. This trace mineral also helps to detoxify the liver and aids the body in removing harmful substances from your blood. Manganese is found in beans, brown rice, peas, blackberries, pineapple, tofu, walnuts and sunflower seeds. The daily requirement is 2-5mg.

 

* Light

A common theme among people suffering from chronic fatigue is a disruption in their circadian rhythms (the system that controls the body's inner clock, also known as your sleep/wake cycle.) This cycle is triggered by the hormone melatonin which is produced by the pituitary gland in your brain. When it's dark outside, your brain produces more melatonin which signals your body to go to sleep. Overproduction of melatonin makes you feel tired all the time. Spending time outside in direct sunlight is the best way to "re-set" your brain's circadian rhythm and halt the release of melatonin. So rise and shine!
