~The Ayurvedic Kitchen~

Stephen Galpin is an Ayurvedic Cooking Consultant and Vegetarian Chef offering private consultations, cooking workshops and retreat catering in SA, Northern NSW and the Gold Coast.

Ayurveda is India’s timeless traditional system of medicine. Although developed more than 5000 years ago, it is based on the fundamental, unchanging laws of nature so remains as relevant today as

ever before. However, Ayurveda is more than a medical system, it is a ‘science of life’, teaching principles and practices that help us live a life of greater depth, health and happiness.

Food is at the very heart of this journey. Ayurveda teaches us how to choose, prepare, eat and relate to our food in a way that makes it deeply nourishing to our body, mind and spirit. This food, cooked with love and intention, is divinely delicious! It is an act of joyous celebration!

With a food career spanning 34 years, Stephen has taught at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu School in South Australia, has been Executive Chef at the Adelaide Festival Centre, Head Chef at Sables Restaurant and ran his own successful restaurant for 10 years. With Maggie Beer and Stephanie Alexander amongst his list of clients he has notched up a list of Industry Awards in Food Design and Manufacturing. He is part of the Mudita Institute’s teaching team, leading the cooking demonstrations at their applied Ayurveda retreats.

Stephen brings with him a desire to uncover a deeper, more subtle relationship with food through his insights into Yoga and Meditation, Ayurvedic principles and his vast knowledge of vegetarian cuisine. He has studied Ayurveda and Yoga with the Shantarasa School of Yoga in South Australia.

“Food that nourishes our body, mind & spirit is prepared with love. Allow food to become your best friend; one that nourishes & sustains you. You will spend this life time with food. Slow down & take some time to really get to know it well!”

Sharing Love note:

When I add a spoon of honey to my tea, I give thanks to a dozen bees for the work of their whole lives. When my finger sweeps the final drop of sweetness from the jar, I know we've enjoyed the nectar from over a million flowers. This is what honey is: the souls of flowers, a food to please the gods. Honeyeaters know that to have a joyful heart one must live life like the bees, sipping the sweet nectar from each moment as it blooms. And Life, like the world of honey, has its enchantments and stings.
