For most people, each passing month of their lives seems to feel shorter than the previous. Many of us can’t believe that stores are already starting to display Christmas products, and if you’re writing a check, you might still catch yourself writing 2013 when 2014 is nearly over.

BALANCING ACT Take time each day to go within: meditate, pray, contemplate, breathe. Begin first thing in the morning before you arise. Feel gratitude for the experience and blessing of being on Earth at this time. Be mindful of all the blessings you have. Ask for guidance for the things that are happening around you that pull you out of a state of gratitude. Set your intentions for what you choose to create this day.

Now you are ready to arise and begin your day. When possible, follow the lunar and solar cycles. Arise at dawn and gaze at the sun while filling your soul with love of the universe and all it contains. Do you have any idea how important sun gazing is to your physical form? The indigenous ones know and have followed this practice for centuries.

Spending time in the universe within… it’s vital. We all know the importance of being our own rescuer, especially when there is emotional bombardment to deal with. Although we may wish we could be insulated from the negativity and distress, it’s going to be there, people are going to be affected, and thoughts can become scattered. For me, meditation has been both a rescue and a return home.

The other day I saw a Facebook meme that reminded me of how much we need to turn inward. It said, “I am homesick for a place I don’t even know exists, one where my heart is full and my soul is understood.” I can relate to the feeling that the writer describes, as I had that same longing for years, sometimes believing I was misplaced… my soul could...

Beloveds, it is not necessary to understand everything that goes on in life. It is not a requirement of life that you have an answer or explanation. Oh, yes, it would be nice to understand all and have no questions left to ask. “So this is how this happened. So this is what this means. Now I see the whole thing from beginning to end.” However, this is not how it mostly is in life in the world.
 
It’s mostly not possible to trace the tracks of life. Most likely, you just have to shrug your shoulders and keep going. You just may have to accept. And what does it mean to accept? It means to just let it go and move on. This is progress in life. Letting something go and keep on moseying along.
 
I didn’t give you the title of Investigator of Life. I haven’t made you the Record Keeper of Life. I have made you a traveler. If the inn you stop at tonight isn’t of the quality you prefer, you get up in the morning and keep going and look for an inn more pleasing where you can stay tonight.
 
Beloveds, what else is there to do? You could resent the inn you stayed in last night. You could make A-rated inns a cause. You could sue. You could shackle your life to the past and think you are a crusader.
 
Here’s the thing, beloveds. Life does not have to follow your sketch of it. You really have to take life as it comes and keep going forward. You don’t want to backslide. You don’t want to forever live in the past, trying to go back and fix it according to your standards. You simply don’t know enough.
