Homegrown Revolution is a short introduction to the homegrown project that has been called a new revolution in urban sustainability.

In the midst of a dense city setting in downtown Pasadena, radical change is taking root. For over twenty years, the Dervaes family have transformed their home into an urban homestead and model for sustainable agriculture and city living.

Through the creation of the "Urban Homestead" the Dervaes family shows that change is possible -- one step at a time. They harvest 3 tons of organic food annually from their 1/10 acre garden while incorporating many back-to-basics practices, solar energy and biodiesel in order to reduce their footprint on the earth's resources. Wish I could still do this. I once had a front yard garden and the tomatoes were wonderful. Went out every morning early to pick the tomato worms off, no insecticides. Picked them off with a teaspoon. In the evenings I used to sit on the front porch for hours, heating water for tea over a small charcoal grill and watching the plants grow. I was in my twenties then, back in the early 70s.

Used to have a house and planted a backyard garden. There were moles and rats, and they were greedily hungry. So sad - except for the beets!!! They didn't touch the beets! I had beets bigger than grapefruits, and the greens made the best salads, and my friend and I pickled the beets and even drank glassfuls of the pickling solution.

There is a community garden here - I used to be the "lettuce lady", starting seedlings on my little patio and then giving them to the garden. They produce massive amounts of food and they donate it all to Food Share!

Wish I could be involved again, but someday....when I am re-healthed and re-youthed...

Blessings,

Astreia

Hello Asteria,

Did you see the article on the Earth Star Network? Here is the link to the facebook page. This is where lightworkers are sharing information that moves toward manifestation. Maybe your knowledge could attract a partner who could help you plant another garden.

With great Love,

Pamela

How beautiful and loving..What an example of LOVE they are for all of us,,It's totally amazing to see this family and the fruits of their labor...You can see they truly Love growing their own foods. Everyone has such a beautiful, loving attitude towards each other as it should be... Love shows in the size and quality of the fruits, veggies, and even the animals..It's so wonderful to see this way of gardening is totally successful..

I live in an apartment home, but, I'm growing a little container garden right in front of my porch...Just a few plants for this season..green beans, tomatos, peppers, squash and cucumber..I love talking to the plants and watching them grow...Looking forward to harvesting them when everything is ripe..

It's also a blessing more community gardens are springing up across this land of plenty...I agree with Astreia about being returned to a more youthful body to be able to have the strength to tend to a garden such as this one..Thanks for sharing this delightful video and story..Sending much Peace, Joy, Light, and Love to ALL! NOW! :) <3
