Yes, I believe it's real. Apparently, many native americans had a similar prophecy altho the Hopi one is best known. If you search the internet, you can find out a lot about this legend.

Forgive me for my doubts but when did the Hopi know about the yellow and black races and include them in their legends. How old must a story be to become a legend?

I AM no expert on this but I do have some thoughts in answer to your question. Many indigenous peoples around the world, including native americans, have been able to hang on to ancient knowledge. They knew/know about our Star Brothers and Sisters, for example. Anyway, the recipient of prophetic knowledge is just that - the recipient. They don't have to be familiar with the things in the prophecy to share that prophecy. This was prophetic information, not a historical account. I don't know when or how native americans decided that there were four races of humans but I assume it came from ancient oral history.
