SaLuSa tells the truth.
Down here I called the ESSEX home. Compact as it is, it is meant for storing life saving and ship saving equipment. And no more. Hangar deck and Flightdeck topside, as usual, offices(O-2 level mostly, the ship isnt very tall when compared the the IKE..) above you. Below you deep deep chasms and passages on steep stairs leading down to laundry and engineering parts and deep refrigerators taking up the bowel of the ship.
Not to say a space ship, large as the Enterprise, or the Scarab doesnt have its compartments.But in a way the ESSEX reminded me of the SCARAB. Large hanger deck, lots of planes and space to store equipment... tons of people milling about between offices and workcenters large and small. Frigates, transports, very similar to each other.
And then the smaller ships, private planes, jets, group transports.... its all there folks.
Yes very much so cities in thier own rights. The ESSEX crew, the IKE...anyone who has served in the Navy knows about the floating cities thing.
Need a plumber, a firefighter..you call the DC men. Cook, mess deck. Supervisor...usually a Chief getting fat in the mess or somewhere on the Officer magement level. General mechanic or 3D part printed/milled....MR shop.(amazing Navy doesnt 3D print..hmmm)
Some cities are larger than others. Ship life is different.
I always needed room to breathe clean air, like outside for some reason. Never figured out why. (Maybe being in charge?)
Glimpse of the future I guess most of you could say. Ive been out there. Not everyone believes me, but thats ok. I'll let the UFO reports fill in the rest. I dont know why Im here, Im just glad to be going home.(AGAIN...)
