Achieving Your Goals Without the Struggle of Self-Discipline
This is a guest article from Amita Patel: www.alignedholistics.com
When I meet new people, I usually get asked one (or more) of the following:
1. How do I pronounce/spell your name?
2. What caste are you?
3. How is what you do different than a therapist?
The first two questions annoy me, while the third gives me an opportunity to talk about my 2nd favorite topic (the first being my dog, Ollie, of course!)
So here it goes: One of the (many) differences between “traditional” therapists and the work I do is that I come from a strengths-based perspective. That means that sessions are less about you bitching about what’s not working, why life sucks, and why everyone else is to blame. Partly because that’s a downer and I don’t want to hear it, but more than that, it’s because that isn’t going to fix shit.
Not surprisingly, in a strengths-based approach we discuss…wait for it…your strengths!
Ok, that wasn’t much of a surprise.
What is a surprise though is how difficult this conversation is for most people...

A Power-Packed Guide to Motivation: How to Motivate Yourself to Take Positive Action
Wikipedia describes motivation as:
a theoretical construct, used to explain behavior. It is the scientific word used to represent the reasons for our actions, our desires, our needs, etc.
Like an old steam locomotive that requires a train driver to toss coal into its boiler, motivation is the very fuel that spurs us to action. It’s a bit illusive though. Motivation isn’t itself any specific thing. Everything we do in every minute of every day is motivated by something. And that something can be anything.
For the most part, we’re not concerned with motivation. We don’t usually question what makes us want to eat Cheerios vs. Raisin Bran in the morning or what makes us want to be Batman vs. Superman for Halloween. But when it comes to things that affect our greater well-being we become extremely interested in motivation and how to affect it.
WHAT? Oregon Man Serving Jail Time For Catching Rain Water
Even if it falls from the sky, you’re not allowed to have it. Gary Harrington, a man from Medford Oregon, is learning that lesson well, serving out a 30 day prison sentence for collecting rainwater on his property. He was also slapped with a $1500 fine for diverting snow runoff and rainwater into reservoirs on his land. This action violates what some say is an antiquated law.
Harrington built the reservoirs, which hold around 13 million gallons of water, for personal use. It’s not all personal though; when wildfires hit the area, he opens up his reservoir for fire mitigation purposes. In his mind, it’s perfectly acceptable for him to collect water on his property.
Outrage: Teen Student Punished For Feeding His Hungry Friend
An eighth grade boy from Weaverville, California was given a detention for sharing his lunch with another classmate and friend. 13 year-old Kyle Bradford decided to share his chicken burrito with his friend who wasn’t very fond of the cheese sandwich the cafeteria server him. Kyle didn’t see any problem in sharing his food with the other student, I mean, who would? My friends and I always shared food when I was a kid. Here’s what Kyle had to say about it:
“It seemed like he couldn’t get a normal lunch, so I just wanted to give mine to him because I wasn’t really that hungry… It was just going to go in the garbage if I didn’t eat it.”
The Northern California school district has rules against sharing food in order to prevent issues with allergies among students. The Superintendent of The Trinity Alps Unified School District, Tom Barnett, spoke with KRCR-TV and told them that hygiene issues are also a concern when it comes to preventing students from sharing their food.
The Symbol Of The Swastika And Its 12,000-Year-Old History
Source: www.ancient-origins.net | Original Post Date: February 6, 2014 –
The swastika is a symbol used by of one of the most hated men on Earth, a symbol that represents the slaughter of millions of people and one of the most destructive wars on Earth. But Adolf Hitler was not the first to use this symbol. In fact, it was used as a powerful symbol thousands of years before him, across many cultures and continents.
For the Hindus and Buddhists in India and other Asian countries, the swastika was an important symbol for many thousands of years and, to this day, the symbol can still be seen in abundance – on temples, buses, taxis, and on the cover of books. It was also used in Ancient Greece and can be found in the remains of the ancient city of Troy, which existed 4,000 years ago. The ancient Druids and the Celts also used the symbol, reflected in many artefacts that have been discovered...
35 Must-Read Spiritual Books You’ve Never Heard Of
Kind of silly to make the "never heard of" claim when you've got NYT best-sellers on the list, but it's still an excellent list of books, many of which I can personally recommend.
You might have had an experience many of us share: We get an idea, a thought or even a dream with a theme that truly inspires us, stretches our minds or opens us up to a greater understanding ourselves and our lives.
And, like magic, within a day or so, we find a book which not only confirms our thoughts and feelings, but goes deeper into the very idea we had than we even did. How cool is it the Universe works with such magic & synchronciticy?
Many of us have also experienced that moment where we find the perfect book at the right time, and it exactly addresses what we’ve been thinking about, wanting to learn more of or a story whose themes directly relates our current lives and experiences. I’ve decided to compile a list of 35-very special books which have fit this description for thousands if not millions of people...
