He’s been the head of the Council for Responsible Genetics for more than 30 years, and he is no fan of GMOs. Sheldon Krimsky writes extensively on the fraud that has been committed against an unsuspecting public when it comes to GMOs with his book of essays titled, “The GMO Deception.”

Among his many critiques of the biotech’s poison crops, he states that one negative finding regarding risks of GMOs weighs ten times more than any positive study since most of the studies ‘proving GMO safety’ are funded by the industry itself. The professor of Tufts University states that he isn’t FOR or AGAINST GMOs, but thinks that the agricultural industry has been negligent in telling the truth about the way they create our food. GMO Deception is just the latest of 13 other books about science, food, and society.

How do you make it so you feel sprightly? By not feeling glum or fearful. What horse do you bet on to win the race? One that is pulling a plow or one without baggage to carry, one who rushes to what is ahead or one who keeps turning around to look back to see how far he has come? One who keeps questioning or one who moves right along?

You have no question about which horse you would bet on. No question at all. Yet, when it comes to life, you hem and haw. You say, “What shall I do? Think about yesterday or move on to today? Or should I think of tomorrow and run away from today as much as I possibly can? Maybe I should just quit anyway. Life has disappointed me too often. In the long run, nothing is going to change, or all change is out of my hands.”

You are the one who has to change. When you feel forlorn, you don’t have to pretend your forlornness away. You just have to put it to one side. If you can stop feeling forlorn altogether, great! If you can’t, just put forlornness somewhere where it will not trip you up. You do not have to cling to past thoughts. You have a million thoughts. Certainly you can put some thoughts aside and put fresh thoughts in their place.

On Friday, February 20th, Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) and Jared Polis (D-Colorado) introduced two separate bills in Congress that would legalize marijuana use at the federal level for adults.

Blumenauer’s bill, called the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, would tax cannabis at the federal level in addition to any local and state taxes. Polis’ bill, also called the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol act for some reason, would allow states to choose to legalize cannabis without any fear of federal intervention.

Both of the representatives hail from states that have already fully legalized marijuana use for adults 21 and up. So far, four states have already legalized it and 23 states have medical marijuana laws on the books.

Early spring is the season of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of the Growing Light who walks the land thawing the ice and warming the cold Earth into life with every step she takes. In later times she became Saint Brigid, the most beloved of Irish saints.

This was the time of year when the Celtic peoples of Scotland and Ireland looked eagerly for hibernating animals to emerge from their winter dens – a sign that winter was almost over. In Scotland this might be a badger, a hedgehog or even a bear. In an old Scottish tradition, Bridget herself emerges from the Earth in early spring, just as in the Greek myth, the goddess Persephone came out of the underworld and spring returned once more. In ancient Greece this drama was enacted in the Eleusinian mysteries at this time of year.
