In the wake of the horrific shooting at the offices of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, illustrators and cartoonists around the world come together in solidarity with the 12 artists and ordinary people who died in that event by doing what they do best – drawing cartoons that express their thoughts and emotions more eloquently than words ever could.

Their messages range from anger and defiance to grief and hope, but there is a common thread. It is clear that, in their eyes, the people at Charlie Hebdo have died as martyrs who championed the freedom of expression and of the press, which are some of the core elements of a free society.

Negativity and Spirituality: You Aren’t Alone

Written by Wes Annac, The Culture of Awareness

Some of us consider it our mission to raise the collective vibration by doing what we can to raise our own, and however often I’ve said what I’m about to say, I think the best way to avoid distraction or depression is to consistently embrace our creative and spiritual practices.

I’ve had trouble staying centered lately. It happens every now and then, but it seems to have gotten worse and I’ve watched myself get distracted and frustrated when I could be writing, playing music, meditating or doing anything else that helps me stay centered and fills me with the spirit.

I’m learning that our emotions might dip if we don’t stay dedicated to our passions. Emotion is a powerful tool that can be used positively or negatively, and those of us who are sensitive to the world’s harshness might suffer if we don’t keep our spiritual links strong. Not only could we suffer – our negativity could make the people around us suffer too.

Giving Advice and Being the Light for Others

“I find the best way to love someone is not to change them but instead, help them reveal the greatest version of themselves”- Dr. Steve Maraboli

At a certain point in our spiritual journey we begin to unlock our own inner truth. We no longer are looking to outside sources such as religions, gurus, self-help books, etc. to tell us what to do and how to be, but instead we begin to realize that the answers were inside of us all along.

Not to say that we still don’t read books or open ourselves up to learning from others, but rather we have a more clear connection with our own intuition, which allows us to FEEL the “truth” rather than intellectualize it only.

The Orchestra of Reality – Information, Energy and Vibration

Some call it spirituality, others religion, the experience of consciousness, or the paranormal. The blurring of the lines between one person’s mind and the rest of reality has been called many things by many cultures over the course of humanity’s history. But no matter what you call this timeless, worldwide phenomenon, most people have personally had extraordinary experiences, too.

Even though my experience of an ‘extraordinary’ interconnection with the external world has confirmed my belief of unity near countless times, I still challenge it logically in each relevant moment because, on the surface, our experience can really seem quite random and desolate. But every time I undertake this critique, my understanding is reinforced, some moments more mind-bendingly than others.

Facing Personal and Collective Nightmares with Lucid Dreaming

Waking Times

Video - A teacher of lucid dreaming Charlie Morley discusses facing personal and collective cultural nightmares through lucid awareness and how this process can take you on a path of personal healing. Lucid dreaming, being aware that you are dreaming when you are dreaming, is scientifically identified as a hybrid state of consciousness. It has been practiced as a mind training method by Tibetan Buddhists for thousands of years. Morley believes that dreaming more lucidly can bring more awareness, clarity and joy into life. He is the co-creator of a new holistic approach to conscious sleeping and lucid dreaming called “Mindfulness of Dream and Sleep”.

NASA observatories take an unprecedented look into superstar Eta Carinae

Submitted by Galactic Free Press on Fri, 01/09/2015 - 08:43

Eta Carinae, the most luminous and massive stellar system within 10 000 light-years of Earth, is known for its surprising behavior, erupting twice in the 19th century for reasons scientists still don't understand.

A long-term study led by astronomers at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, used NASA satellites, ground-based telescopes and theoretical modeling to produce the most comprehensive picture of Eta Carinae to date. New findings include Hubble Space Telescope images that show decade-old shells of ionized gas racing away from the largest star at a million miles an hour, and new 3-D models that reveal never-before-seen features of the stars' interactions.

"We are coming to understand the present state and complex environment of this remarkable object, but we have a long way to go to explain Eta Carinae's past eruptions or to predict its future behavior," said Goddard astrophysicist Ted Gull, who coordinates a research group that has monitored the star for more than a decade.

Open to The Real

Submitted by Galactic Free Press on Fri, 01/09/2015 - 08:40

Without an ego, there is only sharing, giving, intimacy and truth.  An ocean of love waits for the vulnerable.

Mind and ego need each other to exist.  They are outside our feelings, so they hide what we feel.  Since they are outside the understanding of self and the experience of love, they are counterfeits to the truth within us.

When we silence the mind and ego, we open the door to what is real within us.  Only then can we share the nature of our reality within from our beingness.

Namaste.

The Nature of Mind and the Holographic Brain

Technology Trapping Figure

Brandon West, Contributor
Waking Times

What is the true nature of mind, and what is the real function of our brains?

The purpose of this article is to provide evidence that strongly indicates that you are not your brain, or your body for that matter, and that the nature of mind, of memory, and of our brains may actually be vastly different than we have been lead to believe.

Since time immemorial, man has been fascinated by the mind, leading great thinkers from Hippocrates to Descartes to ponder the nature of mind with wonder. Fast forward to modern times and observe how the mind is still revered and is dominating our culture. We have a lot of firm beliefs about the nature of mind, and I believe the ego – our limited perception of ourselves – and thus human ignorance, is intricately tied in with these beliefs.

10 Pieces Of Wisdom & Quotes From Native American Elders

Submitted by Galactic Free Press on Thu, 01/08/2015 - 20:24

Prior to the arrival of Europeans in America, there were estimated to be 1.2 to 12 million Native Americans living in the Americas. That population was quickly dwindled to 250,000 via disease, suicide, genocide, slavery, and mass murder. This was an incredibly great tragedy and may be one of the most terrible things to ever happen to any group of people in the history of our planet. However, almost 0 attention is given to this tragedy. One has to ask, why?

In this tragedy, not only lives were lost, but almost all Native American traditions, spirituality, and customs were killed along with the people. Could this have been a reason for the genocide? They were in tune with Mother Nature and are often called the Keepers of the Earth. They wanted to “walk lightly upon the Earth and live in balance and harmony.” Perhaps if more Native Americans were alive today, our planet wouldn’t be facing so much turmoil. Everyone can benefit from adopting so of the ancient spiritual teachings of the Native American elders.
