In Madison, Wisconsin, the homeless population has grown by 7% in the last four years, rising to around 3,370. Occupy Madison, frustrated by lack of movement on behalf of city leaders opted to develop their own solution. It’s called Occupy Madison Inc. It’s a nonprofit organization, and their mission is to house the homeless.

Tiny Village, the name of their housing development, has 9 tiny homes, a permanent day resource center, safe places to sleep at night, as well as restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a community gardening space; basically everything a chronically homeless person would need in order to function within the system. Their ribbon cutting event was November 15th, 2014.

It’s hard to deny that things are becoming increasingly challenging here on Earth. Many of us are struggling through economic hardships comparable to that of the great depression, while others live every day in fear for their life as the place that they call home is now an active war zone. No matter the intensity of your individual story, we all face challenges and thanks to the mainstream media beast we are all also constantly thrust with negative story after negative story -with the occasional irrelevant pop culture distraction tossed in every couple of minutes.

Despite this, I still choose to stand on the glass is half full side of the spectrum. I strongly believe that deep down we are all hard wired to not only survive and thrive here on planet Earth, but also to come together and recognize the interconnectedness that we all share. Here are 8 reasons why I have hope in the world and I believe that you should too:

Religious. Agnostic. Skinny. Healthy. Holy. Good. Ugly. Right. Wrong. We are all of these assumptions and much more in the mirror of the world. Trying to adapt to the reflection of our perfection, suppressing our true identities, we wear a mask best suited for the occasion, a mask of ego that would help us fit in with the rest in the world of shallowness.

What we really miss out on while we are busy adjusting, is the emotion we were taught as a child – LOVE. Trying to find love outside and pacifying the ardent desire ‘to be loved’, we overlook the place where it truly resides – within us.

Greek mythology, Buddhism, Hinduism and many other religions and cults, emphasis on the profuse power of self-love and self-compassion. This fundamental form of love often goes missed and if tapped, is declared to be wrapped in the mask of narcissism. But the urgent need to focus on self love, a symbol of self trust, is ignored. People are scared to believe in themselves & are rather happier to live a life of self-contempt because self-trust is too expensive to afford.

The term “telepathy” was coined in 1882 by Frederick W.H. Myers, a founding member of the London Society for Psychical Research (SPR). The word means “feeling at a distance”, though this may be slightly misleading in that this is not usually how the term is deployed. Telepathy is essentially mind-to-mind contact, or the exchange of information between two different consciousnesses separated by an arbitrarily large distance (it doesn’t matter how large). Though many of the more narrow-visioned would claim any discussion involving telepathy is “unscientific” by default, we can see that many years ago there were eminent scientists who not only recognized its existence but sought to understand the phenomenon.

Cravings can inspire you or consume you. They can lead you down the path of ill health or encourage change in what and how you eat. Once we are tuned into all the the foods that jive with our intestinal, hormonal and physiological health, we can learn to and tweak our diet to satisfy something larger that our body requirements. Defeating recurring cravings is all a matter of matching a nutrient deficiency with a healthy bioavailable source.

I know many people who self-medicate with cookies, chocolate or cupcakes. But there is always a close link between feeling down and craving carbs. It’s not always clear if a dip in your mood is the excuse for your recent junk food binge, or if it’s the other way around, but specific nutrientsa are behind many cravings.

Despite its advertised promise, the experience of heartbreak is often chaotic, confusing, and messy. Most people want to get out of it as soon as possible. And for good reason; it hurts. Trying to escape heartbreak prematurely, however, leads to the perpetuation of pain, otherwise known as suffering. While everyone´s journey through heartbreak will be unique, there are many helpful tips as well as a context of healing for how to embody this process in order to be released from the depths of pain and loss as a renewed, wiser, more genuinely loving person.

At some point each of us faces heartbreak. Whether we lose a loved one, our health, a piece of land or a whole planet to over-development and toxicity, each is a kind of heartbreak. Some heartbreaks bring us to our knees, and these occasions hold the promise the most growth and initiation into deeper love.
