Video - Many believe that there is a deeper significance of the Great Pyramids at Giza, beyond the assumption that were built solely as tombs of the pharaohs. The Ancient Egyptians appear to have built the pyramids in alignment with the three stars of Orion’s belt. The various features of these structures seem to have a strong astrological importance. For many, New Year’s is a time of parties, resolutions, and tacky sequined dresses. For me, it’s quite the opposite. This New Year’s day marks the 5 year anniversary of my sexual assault. While it has been the most devastating event of my life, it has also been the greatest catalyst for my growth. It would cheapen the pain to say I am grateful for it, but on some level I know that I wouldn’t have become my true self without it.  

More difficult than the event itself is the aftermath.  The reactions of those I loved, the unsolicited advice on how to deal with it, the repression, the depression, and the nights of too many drinks. And while ignoring my feelings was not a coping strategy I intended to choose, it was certainly the one my body and mind chose for me.

Like countless teachers have told us, spiritual evolution isn’t as much about feeling better as it is stripping away all of the falsities from our life until the genuine, authentic seeker within is all that remains.

Once we cleanse ourselves of the things that hinder our development, which are usually pushed onto us by society and influence us for a long time after, we’re left with a purified aspect of our consciousness that can explore itself and help others learn about spirit in a sensible way.

I think authenticity is important, especially if we want to show the way for others. We’ll want to be as approachable as possible for people who might not understand what we’re talking about at first, and we run the risk of pushing away potential newcomers if we aren’t anchored when we talk or write about spirituality.

Spiritual information that cannot be applied directly to our understanding of self is useless -- if it only teases the imagination, it is worthless.

If what we are taught cannot be practically applied to expand our understanding of ourselves within, it is deception.

Spiritual glamour is not awareness.  It only supports the spiritual ego, not the path to inner knowing.

There is too much glamour in the religious, spiritual, new age and metaphysics communities!  Too many seem headed for Hollywood – have they forgotten the way “Home”?
