AURORA WATCH: A CME expected to reach Earth on April 4th is overdue. The cloud might have missed or maybe it's running late. Mindful of a possible impact, NOAA forecasters estimate a 15% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on April 5th. Aurora alerts: text, phone.

 

With the arrival of Spring, Arctic nights are growing shorter. "Soon, aurora season will be coming to an end," says Norwegian photographer Thorbjørn Riise Haagensen. "But it's not over yet." Last night Haagensen photographed this scene over Hillesøy, Norway:

 

"Beginning in the middle of May, the midnight sun brings sunshine all night long," he says. "Already some daylight is visible at the horizon at midnight. There is still enough darkness, though, for the last dance of the auroras."

4/5/2012 -- Tornadoes in Louisiana and Mississippi -- AL, TN , GA, FL, SC be AWARE

Its about 230am CDT on 4/5/2012 -- and now we see NEW tornado alerts, warnings, and watches issued for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. A lot of people are asleep right now.. This is why having a severe weather plan (AND KNOWING IT WELL) is a good idea.. you may be awoke in the middle of the night with a natural disaster on your doorstep, and have NO IDEA a tornado warning has been issued for your area. 

Damaging winds can appear at a MOMENTS NOTICE .. or without ANY notice sometimes... which is why you should practice your severe weather plan, have the supplies you'll need ready and stowed away.. make sure any children or elderly know the plan, if you have animals... think of them too !
