There are two ways to argue with reality.

One way is to wish that someone or something else were present instead of who or whatever is.

That’s the one we tend to consciously ruminate over. The one that fuels our hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Drives us to positive thinking, visualizations and manifestation attempts.  Well used, it may also motivate, inspire and encourage dedicated actions, choices and behaviors that are aligned with our aspirations for our self and our world.

The second way is to deeply desire for someone or something to be absent from your life...

According to a report this year from the esteemed Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), fatal overdoses caused by prescription painkillers dropped dramatically in states where cannabis is legal for medical and recreational use.

Access to medical cannabis, according to the study, is responsible for an overall 25% drop in fatalities associated with prescription drugs taken for chronic pain.  The study also expects such fatalities to continue to drop as cannabis reform across the country allows more people to legally access the drug for medical purposes.

Study authors in fact believe that people who have chronic pain tend to rely on medical cannabis when they have this option, which also dramatically reduces the risk of addiction and overdose of other used medications.

“We think that people with chronic pain may be choosing to treat their pain with cannabis rather than with prescription painkillers, in states where this is legal,” said lead author Dr. Marcus Bachhuber, a researcher with the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The first large-scale animal factories appeared in the early 1970s, and while these initial confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) were for egg laying hens, pork and beef producers soon followed suit.

Today, most meat sold in the US (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, etc.) is raised in a CAFO.

It’s a corporate-controlled system characterized by large-scale, centralized, low profit-margin production, processing, and distribution systems, built around efficiency — producing more for less.

By 1980, chicken, pig, beef, and dairy CAFOs were firmly established, and over the following decade, processed fast food became the norm, courtesy of abundant inexpensive meats.

We are now experiencing the consequences of manufacturing animals on factory farms rather than raising them properly.  Antibiotic-resistant disease is one serious consequence that now claims the lives of about 23,000 Americans every year.
