Winter solstice occurs this week, with Sun entering the Capricorn sign. Four planets in earth signs (and occasionally, five, with Moon strong and earthy by sign in Taurus from December 20 to 22) create a rather grounded, material feel to the transits. A double grand earth trine forms during the middle of the week amongst Moon, Jupiter, and Mercury/Pluto. The window of time to enjoy the solid earthy pattern is narrow, but of great interest: it occurs as Sun moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn. Perhaps the Sun is signaling that attention given to the “controlled expansion” theme occurring of late, and becoming a long-standing theme with Saturn in Sagittarius, creates additional opportunities this month for material stability or gains.

The American public and the world have long since been warned of the dangers of allowing the military industrial complex to become such an integral part of our economic survival. The United States is the self-proclaimed angel of democracy in the world, but just as George Orwell warned, war is the health of the state, and in the language of newspeak, democracy is the term we use to hide the reality of the nature of our warfare state.

You may think you are not having a great time on Earth. You may have convinced yourself – and the world convinced you – that under your circumstances, you must be having a difficult time, and so you have taken on the robes of despair or anger or victimhood. If you could know ahead of time that your very specific circumstances have merit and would have a good outcome, why, you could have been enjoying yourself all the while.

I mean, what a story you are in, what an amazing plot, and what a myriad of possibilities! In any case, your present circumstances do not last forever, and, soon enough, you will be under different circumstances. You may already be in new circumstances, and, yet, what may you be doing but still mourning the past?

Look, you know yourself. Even under marvelous circumstances, you continue to worry, because, by and by, these marvelous circumstances won't stay by your side, and what then? You guess that more misery will stake out its territory in your life, and then you are up the creek once again.

Isn’t your modus operandi something like this: Either you are waiting to get out of misery or danger or whatever you choose to call it, or you are waiting for the axe to fall and lose your little while of happiness. This way of thinking will keep you moored in helplessness.

It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then you hear a story about people overcoming all odds to help others and it completely changes your perspective of the world.

Two Chinese men, 53-year-old Jia Wenqi and 54-year-old Jia Haixia, have been doing something amazing for the last 13 years. They have planted more than 10,000 trees around Yeli Village in northeastern China, a region which once was covered in nothing but rocks and weeds. But what is really stunning about this story is that both friends have severe physical disabilities – Haixa is completely blind and Wenqi is a double amputee with no arms. Yet, it did not prevent them from accomplishing their mission.

Haixia was born with congenital cataracts which left his left eye blind. In 2000, he lost sight in his other eye after a work accident. Wenqi had a tragic accident at the age of three years old, as a result of which he lost both of his arms.
